We drove to Montrose first thing this morning to get a flat fixed on Charolette’s bicycle.  It turned out to be a defective inner tube which the dealer replaced at no charge.  I also got a haircut while we were in the big city (population 12,000).  And, of course, we did some shopping at Wal-Mart.

This afternoon we drove to a place called Clear Lake.  It’s at the end of a 8.5 mile drive on dirt roads, the last four miles being a 4-wheel drive road.  I’ve long since run out of words to describe the scenery we see out here.  I’ve used awesome, beautiful, etc. way too much.  My feeble mind doesn’t know how to describe today’s drive.  It may be the best scenery we’ve ever seen out here.  We climbed through a lot of switchbacks, past two gorgeous waterfalls, into a scenic bowl with a turquoise lake at 11,900 feet.  We ate a picnic supper while we were there.  We were the only people there.

On the way back to Ouray, we again got to see sunset on the Red Mountains (impossible to describe).  It was a nice day considering our plans last night were to simply do laundry and hang out.  We plan to try another 4-wheel drive road tomorrow if the nice weather holds.
