We spent almost five hours at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. This is actually a collection of five museums - Buffalo Bill Museum, Draper Museum of Natural History, Plains Indian Museum, Whitney Gallery of Western Art, and Cody Firearms Museum. It's a bargain at $15.00 for all five and your ticket gives you two days of looking. There was also a special exhibit about art in Yellowstone. We liked the Yellowstone and Western art exhibits best, but it was all interesting except for the firearms. It was a very large firearms exhibit with a room for each of the major manufacturers in American History. We just did a cursory walk through it.
There was one section that showed unique items of western furniture and clothing. It had very exotic chaps and strange chests, chairs, etc. that are current items. The exhibit was called Best of the West. There was one item there from Custom Leather and Saddlery of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, -a day bed of fancy leathers with horns for the sides. What a coincidence.
We visited a quilt store. The gentleman half of the owners is a retired firefighter from a Detroit suburb. He encountered me in the parking lot and spent almost ten minutes giving me his life story since retirement. Fortunately a customer for his trailer business showed up and rescued me. He has a trailer and spa store at the same place as his wife's quilt store. He was definitely a character.
We also went by Wal-Mart. This is the first Wal-Mart we have seen since May 28th. It was not quite as interesting as the museums, but it was definitely ahead of the trailer/spa/quilt stores.
